f you have ended up on this page because you googled “Steam Punk scarves”, then this design needs no introduction. For those who don’t know what this is however, here is a brief description.
Born as a direct reaction to “Cyber Punk”, “Steam Punk” gives us a retrospective view of the future. Taking its inspiration from Victorian writers such as Jules Verne this genre projects itself forward into a fantasy future where technology, as we know it, has never existed. Just like H. G. Wells’ “Time Machine” we enter a Victorianesque world pre-occupied with time travel and exploration, where everyday objects are driven mechanically, powered by the rhythmic click and whir of brass cogs.
My design is set on a brass background. Clockwork jewel beetles settle on bronze and amber flowers, whilst behind them an army of ticking clocks and cogs mark the relentless passing of time. I’ve chosen the 12mm satin backed silk for this design because of its ability to bring lustre to the metallic tones, and provide an excellent soft drape.
Its generous dimensions of 60cm x 188cm and light weight means that it works just as well as an evening wrap, or scrunched for an everyday scarf. The scarf is beautifully finished with a hand rolled hem.
